LSU football's 2027 recruiting class ranks No. 11 in the sport, per Rivals Industry Rankings. The Tigers have 16 commits, including 12 blue-chip recruits.
And while the class is shaping up to finish top-10 nationally, the Tigers only have one cornerback committed: Three-star Markez Davis. 247Sports ranks Davis as the No. 19-cornerback in the class and No. 12 prospect in the state of Louisiana. Rivals isn't as high on Davis, ranking him as the No. 123 corner in the class.
Usually, programs aim to sign more than just one corner, but there aren't many prospects remaining on the board. The top 59 corners in the Rivals Industry Rankings are all committed -- none to LSU. If LSU is going to beef up its corner case, the Tigers will have to target flips.
LSU has been tied to Alabama native Julian McDonald, a three-star committed to Mississippi State. But even if LSU adds McDonald, that leaves the Tigers with just two three-star cornerback commits, less than LSU's typical haul.
In 2026, LSU signed just one blue-chip corner out of high school: Havon Finney. However, the Tigers also signed three-stars Dezyrian Ellis and Emari Peterson.
LSU missing on blue-chip corners in back-to-back years can hurt. LSU fans will remember how often Brian Kelly's staff had to rely on the transfer portal for defensive backs, a strategy that often failed. If LSU can't pull off a major cornerback flip in 2027, the Tigers will be running thin on homegrown cornerback talent.
Lane Kiffin and staff have proven to be masters of the transfer portal, so it's not as big of a concern with LSU's current staff as it was with the old one, but it's something to keep an eye on as LSU puts the final touches on its 2027 recruiting class.
