Wigan Athletic have released veteran goalkeeper Andy Lonergan and midfielder Scott Smith following the end of the 2024-25 League One season.

Lonergan, 41, joined the Latics last summer under previous manager Shaun Maloney as a goalkeeper player-coach.

He worked with Sam Tickle, Tom Watson and Matty Corran during his time with the club but will leave at the conclusion of his contract this summer.

Smith, 24, made 46 appearances in all competitions for Wigan this season and made a total of 94 appearances for the club after making his debut in 2021.

Meanwhile, the club have triggered a year's option on the contracts of Watson, Luke Robinson and Joe Adams.

Discussions are ongoing with Matthew Corran, Callum McManaman and Harry McHugh, the club added.

Steven Sessegnon is under contract but has been made available for transfer.
