Liverpool, Man Utd Still Face €80M Price for Leipzig Standout With PSG Sell-on Clause

Paris Saint-Germain took a short-term approach last year by loaning Xavi Simons back to RB Leipzig. Now, things are more settled—Simons has officially made the move permanent.

That might actually work out in PSG’s favor. A new report has raised questions about Simons’ attitude during his loan spell, suggesting he might have caused issues had he returned. Paris did include a sell-on clause in the deal, though any off-field concerns could affect how much that ends up being worth.

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United could have the upper hand over Manchester City in the race to sign Simons next summer.

Fabrizio Romano reported the deal is now official. Leipzig paid €80 million in total, including add-ons, with €55 million paid up front. Simons is under contract through June 2027—but with several clubs watching closely, there’s no guarantee he stays that long.

PSG will monitor Leipzig’s sale price for the midfielder, but a sale might not happen this summer as Simons recently spoke about his future.

“I’m still a young player, I have many dreams – and the club knows that,” Simons said. “But right now, the most important thing for me is to play well in the upcoming games. Then we have the international matches, and after that we’ll sit down and see what happens.”
