Liverpool agree long-term contract ahead of permanent deal for third summer signing

Bradley Barcola has reportedly agreed to join Liverpool on a five-year contract.

Sacha Tavolieri notes, in an update relayed on X (formerly Twitter) by @InstantFoot, that PSG are stalling on a deal while they try to push Mika Godts’ transfer through.

The Parisiens have already secured the services of Maghnes Akliouche and are understood to be closing in on the transfer of Ferran Torres.

With the signing of Ronald Araujo through the door, Liverpool are now understood to be focusing their attention on forward signings.

And with the Ligue 1 giants set to significantly bolster their own forward options, it seems a matter of inevitability that Barcola will be moved on this summer as PSG look to jettison their surplus assets.

However, it remains to be seen if Luis Enrique’s men can agree a suitable fee with Ajax, with there still being a discrepancy between the two clubs’ valuation of the left winger.

Liverpool need to take a step forward with further signings

We’re happy for Liverpool to persist in their pursuit of the France international, especially given that it might also lead to the acquisition of PSG teammate Ibrahim Mbaye.

However, this has to come with the understanding that the Reds are quickly running out of time in the window to bolster a rather thin squad.

The signing of Ronald Araujo on loan was a step in the right direction, but there’s clearly an abundance of additional deals on the market that can be completed without bleeding our kitty dry.

If we assume we’ll have some wiggle room in the budget for deals beyond an agreement for Barcola – at a price range Liverpool are comfortable with – there’s surely spare budget to work with.

We’re not suggesting that Richard Hughes and Co. splurge to their heart’s content, but surely there’s wiggle room to complete a deal in the range of, say, £35m for Djed Spence or £40m for Jean-Philippe Mateta (Sky Sports). At the very least, to ensure we’re not leaving a ludicrous number of deals on the table to jam in in the closing weeks of the window.
