Manchester United staff felt the standards and aggression in training had risen during their training camp in Ireland last month due to the presence of Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine defender is a real tone-setter at Man United, and those at Carrington insist the standards in training rise when he is available, according to Manchester Evening News. Martinez brings intensity, aggression and competitiveness to the training ground, and his Red Devils teammates are forced to increase their commitment whenever he is around.
The 28-year-old only recently returned to action after missing two months to a calf injury. However, he has proven why he sets the tone in training, throwing himself into the sessions. Martinez also is not afraid to call others out when they are not giving their all in training, and Man United would be better if others had his level of dedication and commitment. The Red Devils are back in Premier League action tomorrow when they visit the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland, and the defender is expected to feature after returning from his three-match ban.
Martinez was sent off against Leeds United on April 13 and is now looking forward to making his 17th appearance of the campaign this weekend.
