Lionel Messi will play in his third World Cup final on Sunday when Argentina faces Spain at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Messi will be chasing his second World Cup title in a career that has garnered him an untold number of accolades — and plenty of financial gain as well.

The Argentina legend has been among the world's best players for more than two decades, which has been extremely lucrative for him and his family.

In fact, Messi is now a billionaire, with a net worth of $1.1 billion according to Forbes.

After a long career at the top of the sport, salaries plus endorsements and investments have pushed Messi into rare financial territory for a pro athlete.

Messi spent 17 seasons with Barcelona before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. After two years in France, Messi made the move to MLS when he joined Inter Miami in 2023.

Messi's net worth has continued to grow since his move to Florida.

The 39-year-old is the highest-paid player in MLS with a guaranteed compensation of $28.3 million in 2026.

But that salary is just a small part of what Messi is earning in the United States.

The Argentine also has an ownership share in Inter Miami. In March, Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas revealed he pays Messi around $70-80 million per year.

Messi also has separate deals with both Fanatics and Apple that see him compensated for league merchandise sales as well as streaming subscriptions.
