Anyway, that was an entertaining draw, plenty of good things for Chelsea (the play of Delap and Jackson) as well as worrying signs (open and vulnerable at the back).

JDT then took control of the half and should, if truth be told, have extended their lead. But Delap did well to earn the penalty that he subsequently scored and should have made it 2-1 with the last kick of the 45.
Worrying signs at the back, however, for Alonso. Will Chelsea go to four at the back after the break?

Johor are chasing a world record
Johor Darul Ta’Zim – more commonly known as JDT – are the Man Utd of Malaysia (at least that’s according to a Malaysian friend of mine). In 2013, they were going nowhere and were the dictionary definition of a stagnant club, low on confidence and trophies. That was until the Crown Prince bought the club and, over the next 13 years, transformed it into the powerhouse it is today.
As if to underline JDT’s dominance over Malaysian football they are one game away from the world record unbeaten run in a top flight. The new season of the Malaysian Super League gets under way later this month and should they avoid defeat in their opening match they will extend their unbeaten run - which began in April 2021 - to 109 games and surpass the world record set by Ivorian side Asec Mimosas in the early 1990s.

Chelsea young guns to get an outing against Malaysia’s best
Chelsea’s pre-season tour of South East Asia ends today with a match against Johor Darul Ta’zim in Malaysia. The clash comes barely 24 hours after the west Londoners beat AC Milan 3-0 in Jakarta, a much-needed win coming on the back of defeats against Juventus and Tottenham.
A fine volley from Moises Caicedo and a double from João Pedro either side of half-time led Xabi Alonso’s side to victory in the Indonesian capital.
The game was fairly even in the first half and looked set to head into the break level at 0-0 but Pedro’s header from Caicedo’s corner put Chelsea in front.
Alonso’s side then doubled their advantage seconds into the second half as Pedro scored his second, assisted by Pedro Neto.
Just minutes later, Chelsea had their third courtesy of a well-worked corner routine. Romeo Lavia’s delivery was met by Caicedo on the volley, with the Ecuadorian’s finish with the outside of the boot finding the bottom corner.
Today, the west London side face Malaysian powerhouses Johor at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, more on them later, but considering the tight turnaround from yesterday’s match today’s clash will provide a stern test.
“The idea, with the game against Milan and then one in Johor, was to arrive at this weekend with players not being ready for 90 minutes until now,” Alonso explained after the win in Jakarta.
“We wanted to have a logical progression in their loads; so we had our plan and we’ve stuck to that.
“We have another idea [against Johor]; that was decided yesterday [Friday]. The idea is that many young players were coming to have chances to play tomorrow. If not, we’d have been short, as playing two games in two days is quite intense. So we will need them.”
