Jan. 29—MITCHELL — Landon Ruesink has been named an academic All-America first team selection from the Dakota Wesleyan University football team by the College Sports Communicators.
Ruesink earned this prestigious honor by posting a 4.0 grade-point average alongside an impressive on-field resume with the Tigers in the 2025 season as a senior. He was one of three athletes on the 25-man Academic All-America NAIA football teams to boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate or graduate work alongside Derek Pearse of Montana Tech and Dordt's Zach Quiring. The NAIA honorees combined for a 3.76 GPA.
Ruesink, who was the NAIA Male A.O. Duer Scholarship Award recipient in 2025, was named first team all-GPAC this previous football season, recording 42 tackles, 14 pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery, plus received a nod as a GPAC all-conference honorable mention punt returner. Ruesink was also the lone South Dakota representative to make the list at the NAIA level.
Ruesink, an accounting student, will be graduating in the top group of his class following the spring 2026 semester.
The Dell Rapids standout also competes for the Tiger baseball program. Last season, the Dell Rapids native appeared in 43 games primarily as an outfielder. He finished the season batting .256 on the year with a .291 on-base percentage. Ruesink tallied 38 hits, 34 runs scored, one home run, 21 RBIs, seven doubles, one triple and two stolen bases. Defensively, he posted a .944 fielding percentage with 107 putouts on 122 total chances.
DWU baseball will open its 49-game schedule on Feb. 14 in Joplin, Missouri.
