Lakers predicted to finally add elite wing around Luka Doncic to fix biggest need originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Lakers are among many teams with an opportunity to improve over the next few weeks.
With the NBA Draft approaching, there's a sense that the Lakers could move their first-round pick to improve their chances of winning now. Doing so doesn't guarantee the Lakers will get a star back by any means, but if they're willing to package that pick, along with other picks and players, there's a chance Los Angeles can be much better than it was this season.
Watching the playoffs, it's fair to say the Lakers are a bit short of being the team they're looking to be.
Adding a rookie might not help with that, but one reporter recently predicted them to do just that and keep the pick. The prediction was for the Lakers to take forward Chris Cenac Jr., a freshman from Louisiana who played at the University of Houston.
“Cenac has been an exceptionally difficult prospect to find a home for, as well. The consensus seems to be that he’s going to go somewhere in the top 20, but the feedback I get from teams is that he’s more like a late first-rounder. He’s seen as a high-upside swing for teams that can afford to be patient and wait for him to improve his feel for the game,” Sam Vecenie wrote.
Cenac is a really intriguing prospect, and someone I think would fit in nicely with what the Lakers are looking to do long-term.
He's a big kid who has proven he can play defense at a high level and has an intriguing three-point shot, shooting 33.3% on 2.4 attempts per game.
If that can develop in the NBA, he can become a solid role player.
