Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
During the Lakers' 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
John Q. Trapp started his NBA career with the San Diego Rockets as the No. 15 pick in the 1968 draft. After three years in San Diego, he went up Interstate 5 and joined the Lakers. While he didn't play much for the Lakers, he did earn himself an NBA championship in his first season with them.
He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers early in the following season. The 76ers were in the midst of a miserable 9-73 season, and after a couple of incidents, he was waived in January 1973.
The 6-foot-7 forward would complete the 1972-73 campaign with the American Basketball Association's Denver Rockets. That would be Trapp's final season in either league, and he ended up with career averages of 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17.3 minutes a game across both leagues. With L.A., he averaged 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game.
