The Los Angeles Lakers took wing, Cameron Carr, with the No. 24 overall selection, a player with a ton of upside and a strong reputation.

The Lakers had the No. 25th overall selection, but with Carr still on the board come the 24th selection, they struck a deal with the New York Knicks, sending out cash considerations to move up one spot.

Cameron Carr’s father, Chris, has a legitimate NBA pedigree — playing six years in the NBA before playing pro basketball overseas.

In the 1997 season, Chris was selected to compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, where he finished second.

He was runner-up to Lakers legend the late, great Kobe Bryant, who announced himself to the national media as a fiery dunk package.

Carr was playing for the Phoenix Suns, and Bryant was just an 18-year-old rookie. Funny enough, Darvin Ham, who would go on to coach the Lakers decades later, was also in the field.

In order to win the competition, Bryant pulled out a ridiculous between-the-legs reverse dunk that got him a 49 out of 50 and gave him the trophy.

What did Carr say about Kobe Bryant’s dunk?

Chris, despite Bryant ultimately becoming a future Hall of Famer, still believes he rightfully won the dunk contest and explains why Bryant was on a mission to take home the award.

I knew I was going to have to come with something really good … because he [Bryant] had a big game in the rookie game and wasn’t the MVP … so he was out to win something this weekend,” Carr said.

“I still don’t think that he beat me. I’m going to every year put out a tweet and copy him on it just to try to rile him up a bit.”

With Cam now coming to the Lakers, the franchise will hope they end up with even 25% of the player Bryant was. If scouts are to be believed, he has a chance to be a clear contributor on a championship team.
