Kyle Busch hospitalized with 'severe illness,' will miss NASCAR Charlotte race

Kyle Busch has been hospitalized and will miss the NASCAR Charlotte race due to a "severe illness," according to his family.

The specific illness was not disclosed.

“Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation,” according to the statement from Busch's family released on May 21.


Busch, 41, is coming off a 17th-place finish at the NASCAR All-Star Race in Dover on May 17. He won the Craftsman Trucks Series race at Dover on May 15.

Busch has a total of 63 Cup Series wins, which is first among active drivers and ninth overall. He owns the record for O'Reilly Series wins at 102 and Craftsman Truck Series wins at 69.
