The Kremlin has welcomed the International Olympic Committee's decision to provisionally lift its suspension on all Russian athletes, Russian news agencies reported on Wednesday.
Until now, only Russians who could prove they did openly support the Ukraine war and were clean of doping have been allowed to compete at recent Olympics, but as neutral athletes.
The reversal was "an important step on the path to restoring the legitimate rights of our athletes to take part in international competitions," Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said.
Moscow would continue its work to win full rights for all Russian athletes at international level, he added.
On Tuesday, the IOC suspended restrictions previously in force on Russians taking part in its competitions, including with regards to qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games.
However, a decision on whether Russian athletes and teams will again be allowed to compete under their own flag in Los Angeles will be assessed at a later point.
