Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has said that his 40th birthday on Friday was secondary as he prepares for another Bundesliga match where they have a 54-year-old league record in sight in-between a Champions League duel with Real Madrid.

Kompany told reporters he was in "priority mode" with work to be done ahead of Saturday's trip to St Pauli "but maybe there'll be a glass of red wine tonight.

"I can't celebrate in a big way. But if there is a surprise, I can't do anything about it. I think the best you can hope for is three points.

"I'm used to it. I've spent my whole life celebrating my birthday between the semi-finals and quarter-finals, and then you have the bonus of the wins coming in those moments.

"I feel young, I didn't know I would do beforehand. I'm enjoying it, but at the moment there are already enough emotions this week."

The main attraction of the St Pauli game is that Bayern are expected to better the Bundesliga season scoring record which they hold at 101 from the 1971-72 season.

Bayern reached 100 goals in last week's 3-2 win at Freiburg. They have scored at least two goals in 26 of the 28 season games.

Kompany suggested he would not make many changes from the team that won 2-1 in Madrid on Tuesday, with the quarter-final return leg in Munich set for Wednesday.

He said he wants the players to be "just as energised against St Pauli as they were against Real. If we make changes, we don't want to lose what we've done so far."

Manuel Neuer, who is a few weeks older than Kompany, is set to continue in goal unless he has problems in a return from injury "he has to stay in the flow."

Striker Harry Kane, who was back in the starting 11 in Madrid, should also be able to play.

"Harry Kane was fine after the game, he played a bit beyond the pain threshold. But the next day there was no reaction, that's the most important thing," Kompany said.
