Former Duke basketball star Kon Knuppel was seen supporting the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Finals, serving as the team’s “Siren Sounder”.

Fresh off setting an NBA rookie record for the most 3-pointers made in a single season with the Charlotte Hornets, the former Blue Devil guard took to the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, NC, for Game 1 of hockey’s biggest stage against the Vegas Golden Knights, where he was given the honor of “sounding” the team’s siren as they took the ice for the second period.

“Just here to cheer on the Canes and hopefully get a win and get this thing done,” he said in a Hornets Instagram post before the game

The tradition, which dates back to the 2000-09 season, asks a celebrity, season ticket holder, or corporate partner to hand-crank a hurricane warning siren in the 200 level of the arena as the team takes the ice before each period.

Knuppel’s appearance wasn’t the first by a Bull City legend; his former head coach Jon Scheyer, football coach Manny Diaz and, most recently, women’s basketball coach Kara Lawson have all done the honors.

Knuppel wasn’t the only notable local ACC figure in attendance, as North Carolina head football coach Bill Belichick was seen in box seats chatting with league commissioner Gary Bettman during the game.

Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, Knuppel was unable to provide any extra fortune, as the home team lost Game 1, 5-4.
