After raising expectations sky-high following a sweep of the two games in Boston to open the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Knicks took a blow in Game 3 when the Celtics built an early lead at Madison Square Garden and, this time, did not cough it up. The Celtics cruised to a 115-93 win, a game in which the Knicks never got closer than 20 points after the first few minutes of the second half.
Knicks guard Jalen Brunson made a surprise admission after the game, suggesting that New York was a bit too comfortable with how things had gone in the first two games.
"I don't think we came with the mindset of being satisfied, but I think it was just subconsciously satisfied being up 2-0. Just not the way we need to approach the game," Brunson said.
And so the Knicks, after being humbled in front of their home crowd, will go into Game 4 with wounded pride. But the good news for the team is that, after opening the playoffs with a variety of injury concerns--mostly around center Mitchell Robinson--nothing else is wounded.
On Sunday night, the NBA released its injury report ahead of Game 4, and the Knicks' report is entirely clean.
That news comes despite the apparent finger injury suffered by Karl-Anthony Towns in Game 3, as the New York Post's Stefan Bondy noted. "Karl-Anthony Towns, who appeared to hurt his finger yesterday, is NOT on the injury report for tomorrow night’s Game 4, a league source told The Post," Bondy wrote on Twitter/X.
That was before the official report was announced.
The Knicks will attempt to seize control of the series once again in Game 4 on their home floor, with tip-off coming at 7 p.m. ET on Monday.
