FLUSHING, Queens (PIX11) — OG Anunoby may not be a baseball player in the orange and blue, but he was greeted as a hero Sunday afternoon at Citi Field.
The NBA champion for the New York Knicks threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Jose Reyes before the start of the Mets and Philadelphia Phillies rubber match.

Anunoby, the orchestrator of arguably one of the most famous baskets in NBA history, known now as “The Hand of OG,” has shared his Mets fandom in the past. He directly attributes it to Reyes and his cover photo for the video game MLB 2K8.
“I used to do franchise mode with him, steal a bunch of bases, win World Series,” Anunoby said before throwing out the first pitch to his baseball hero.

Reyes was touched by the shoutout, saying it’s a “dream come true” to know how Anunoby became a fan.
“It makes me feel a little old,” Reyes joked.

Anunoby threw a respectable first pitch, especially compared to the history of the Mets’ ceremonial first pitches.

Unfortunately for him and Mets fans, it could not spark his team to victory as the Phillies took the series finale 5-4.
Days after firing manager Carlos Mendoza, the Mets are currently 14 games under .500 and 15 games out of first place in the National League East.
