The Philadelphia Eagles continue to soar after their Super Bowl 59 victory over the Chiefs, with GM Howie Roseman once again demonstrating his draft expertise - at least in the view of one vaunted guru.
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has given the Eagles an impressive A- grade for their 2025 NFL Draft selections in his recent draft grades article published on Sunday.
Said Mel: "Roseman has done it again, selecting solid players throughout the draft.''
Let's take a deeper look ...
Kiper particularly praised Roseman's selection of versatile off-ball linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the 31st pick, noting, "Campbell can be a chess piece for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, getting a handful of snaps on the edge per game." Kiper thought Campbell could have gone in the top 20 picks, making his availability at the end of the first round a steal for the Eagles.
The ESPN analyst also appreciated Roseman's second-round selection of safety Andrew Mukuba, whom Kiper believes could fill the role vacated when C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Texans earlier this offseason. Kiper noted that Mukuba "hits like a linebacker," making him an excellent fit for Philadelphia's defensive scheme.
Kiper was equally enthusiastic about the Eagles' Day 3 selection of Texas tackle Cameron Williams, calling him a potential "steal" despite having only one season of college football experience. "On Day 3, offensive tackle Cameron Williams could be a steal — if Philly can help him put all of his talent together," Kiper wrote. Some analysts are already drawing comparisons between Williams and Eagles star tackle Jordan Mailata due to his impressive physical traits.
Roseman has shown a consistent pattern of targeting SEC defenders who fall to the bottom of the first round, particularly from Alabama and Georgia. Campbell, from Alabama, continues this tradition. During a Friday interview, Roseman hinted that the Eagles might view Campbell as an edge rusher rather than solely as an off-ball linebacker, noting his versatility: "This is a guy who was recruited from IMG by Alabama as a hand-in-the-dirt edge rusher."
This approach makes sense given that one of Roseman's post-free agency priorities has been to replace the 1,067 combined snaps lost from defensive linemen Josh Sweat and Milton Williams, who both departed for sizable contracts elsewhere. While Roseman signed edge rushers Joshua Uche and Azeez Ojulari to one-year deals, Campbell provides additional versatility to Fangio's defensive schemes.
In the end, Kiper found it "wasn't hard to love the entirety of Roseman's 2025 class," agreeing with many other analysts that the Eagles' GM has once again demonstrated his draft acumen. The A- grade confirms what Philadelphia fans already know: when it comes to the NFL Draft, Howie Roseman continues to work his magic.
