Kevin McGonigle is here for the long term.
The Detroit Tigers and the 21-year-old rookie infielder agreed Wednesday, April 15, to an eight-year, $150 million contract extension.
The contract begins in 2027 and runs through 2034, covering his final five seasons of club control and buying out his first three seasons of free agency. The contract includes escalators in the final three seasons that could increase the total value to $160 million.
The deal includes a $14 million signing bonus.

His annual salaries increase over time: $1 million in 2027, $7 million in 2028, $16 million in 2029, $21 million in 2030, $22 million in 2031 and $23 million per year from 2032-34. Escalators could increase those final three seasons to as much as $25 million in 2032, $26 million in 2033 and $28 million in 2034.
The contract also includes a $5 million assignment bonus if McGonigle is traded.
