Another summer of potential and another offseason of disappointment for fans of Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
The franchise entered last season’s trade deadline as a legitimate trade suit for Giannis Antetokounmpo and failed to land him. This offseason, the Warriors failed to trade for Jaylen Brown and were unable to convince LeBron James to sign with them, making this another disappointing summer for a team hopeful to contend for an NBA Championship.
Golden State did bring back Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Gary Payton II, and De’Anthony Melton, but is that enough to contend for an NBA Championship? Kendrick Perkins sure doesn’t think so.

The ESPN NBA analyst was recently asked about the Warriors chances at competing for an NBA championship, and it’s safe to say he wasn’t at all optimistic.
“I mean, when you talk about Steph Curry, Steve Kerr, and Draymond Green, every year they step foot on the floor, it’s either championship or bust,” Kendrick Perkins said Wednesday afternoon. “It’s no in-between. It’s no middle ground because you have Steph Curry, who’s about to be 39 this year, I believe. And Steph Curry wants to win a championship. Is this a championship roster? Absolutely not. Is it a team that we look up and they’ll be in the playoffs come post-season time? I believe so, through the play-in tournament.
“But again, the Warriors know that it’s time to upgrade. It’s time to move some pieces. We don’t know what Jimmy Butler’s going to look like. I thought at times it was too many lows and not enough highs last season when it came to the production from [Brandin] Podziemski. So again, if it was just a team trying to get in the playoffs, then I say, yeah, you could be optimistic, but this is a team that’s trying to win a title and trying to get out of a tough Western Conference.”
The Warriors will enter this season as an intriguing landing spot for a potentially disgruntled future star. Golden State will have the player package and draft assets in order to either build out their post-Stephen Curry future through the NBA Draft or trade them in order to land an impactful, star-level player.
