Memphis Showboats coach Ken Whisenhunt has stepped down from his position, the UFL announced April 16.
Whisenhunt, a former coach for the Cardinals and Titans of the NFL, had briefly stepped away ahead of the season opener on March 30. He returned for the last two games but will now depart permanently.
Offensive line coach Jim Turner has been named interim head coach for the rest of the season. Turner coached the Showboats for their Week 1 loss at home to the Michigan Panthers.
“The time has come for me to step away from the game and take a break from football," Whisenhunt said in a statement. "I am so grateful for my time with the players and wish them the best.”
The Showboats went 2-8 in 2024 and have struggled again to start the 2025 season. They're 0-3 and are one of only two winless teams after three games. They also have the lowest attendance numbers in the league.
“We are grateful for Ken’s contributions to the UFL as head coach of the Memphis Showboats," UFL executive vice president of football operations Daryl Johnston said in a statement. "His passion for the game resonates not only with his players, but the entire league. Ken has been a true professional and our league is better because of the time he spent with the UFL. We are fortunate to have Jim Turner available to immediately take up the head coaching duties for the rest of this season. ”
The Showboats are back in action on Friday (7 p.m., FOX) when they travel to face the Michigan Panthers.
