The WNBA preseason is set to tip off on Friday, and excitement is building—especially around stars like Caitlin Clark, who returns to the court after an offseason away from the game.

The Indiana Fever will play their first preseason game on Saturday, followed by a special matchup at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, where they’ll take on the Brazilian National Team. The game marks an emotional homecoming for Clark, who will play in front of the passionate Iowa fans that supported her during her collegiate career.

Ahead of the season, the Fever kicked off training camp this week, and on Thursday, Clark shared a six-word message on Instagram that quickly caught the attention of her close friend and former Iowa teammate, Kate Martin. Martin, who was recently selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA expansion draft, reacted to the post with enthusiasm.

"We are so back… YEAR 2," Clark posted.

Martin commented, "Year 2 let’s get ittttttttt."

Martin's college career at Iowa spanned five seasons, where she became one of the program's standout players. Clark joined the team in 2021, one year after Martin, and spent four seasons in Iowa City, where she not only solidified herself as the greatest player in Iowa's program history, but also earned recognition as one of the best college basketball players of all time, across both men's and women's basketball. Clark is the all-time leading scorer in Division I history.

When Clark was drafted by the Indiana Fever last season, Martin was present at the WNBA draft to support her teammate and close friend. While Clark was selected No. 1 overall, Martin also had her moment, as she was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces while sitting in the crowd.
