Hendersonville native Josh Berry will not return to the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing team for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season, he said on a teleconference on June 10.
Berry, 35, is in his third full-time Cup season in 2026 and second with the Wood Brothers. Berry currently sits in 30th in the points standings.
"It's tough to have happen, but at the same time, I've been extremely fortunate to get the opportunities that I've had and been extremely fortunate to drive for the Wood Brothers and this team," Berry said. "Unfortunately it's gone a different direction but you never know what doors might open up."
After a win at Las Vegas last spring, Berry struggled to recover the form from that early-season stretch. This season, Berry has two top-10 finishes in 15 starts and halted a seven-race streak of finishes of 27th or worse with a 15th-place run last weekend at Michigan.
Driver movement for the 2027 Cup Series season has started, with Corey Heim already announced as the new full-time driver in the third 23XI Racing entry. That leaves Riley Herbst without a ride in 2027, though The Athletic reported last week that Herbst is expected to drive for Legacy Motor Club.
In a statement, Wood Brothers said they would "soon" announce next season's driver plans for the No. 21.
"We thank Josh Berry for all he's done for Wood Brothers Racing and our partners over the last two seasons," the team said. "Josh has been a great teammate and we look forward to a strong finish to the season."
