It is hard to believe, but reserve forward Jordan Walsh is currently the fourth-longest tenured member of the Boston Celtics, behind only Jayson Tatum, Sam Hauser, Payton Pritchard, and Derrick White. Signing with the Celtics after they picked the Arkansas alum up with the No. 38 overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, Walsh just beats out big man Neemias Queta by about a month in terms of seniority.
And much of that has been due to the roster churn created by Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and company as they reshape the team in response to the strictures of the leagues current collective bargaining agreement. Gone are many a player Walsh leaned into as veteran presences to help him find his way in the NBA. "Isn't that crazy?" said Walsh to NBC Sports Boston's Chris Forsberg in a recent interview when this came up. "I haven't been here three years ... I've been seeing a lot of people come and go."
But of the many players who are no longer a member of the team, Jaylen Brown, Walsh's seat mate on team flights, will be particularly missed now that he has been dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers. "It is different," he said, "because it's one of the guys that I was probably the closest with."
"Maybe the top, maybe the second guy I was most close with. But for him to do so many things for me that he's done, on and off the court, I've always got to show love and appreciate that, because he is the realest," said Walsh. "He is one of the realest people I know. And so having him gone, that's a blow."
"So we're all just trusting in their build and their position and trying to make the best of it," suggested Walsh.
