The Green Bay Packers' decision-makers appear set to move on from Jaire Alexander.

But Packers quarterback Jordan Love has other thoughts.

"He’s definitely a player we need back," Love said when asked about the All-Pro cornerback during his appearance on FanDuel's "Up & Adams Show" on April 17.

Love said he plans to reach out to Alexander for a status up.

"Ja, he’s got his own world going on," said Love, who is entering his third season as the Packers' starting quarterback in 2025. "We’ll let him handle his business. That’s my guy right there."

Love highlighted Alexander's play style and impact in the locker room as reasons to bring him back.

"He’s a guy we need around," Love said. "Locker room, he’s a character. That’s a guy you never know what you’re going to get. With Ja, he’s always a guy that interacts with everybody on the team. He jokes around but he also has that serious side to him as a competitor."

When available, Alexander is one of the game's top cornerbacks. But he has spent more time off the field than on it in recent seasons.

Alexander, 28, played in just seven of the team's 17 regular-season games last season while battling several injuries. Overall, he has played in 16 of a possible 36 games, including playoffs over the last two years. And in the last four seasons, he has missed exactly half of the team's regular-season games.

In 2024, after leaving the Packers' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in late October with a knee injury, he played just 10 more snaps the rest of the season. He didn't play again after Week 11 on Nov. 17. He later underwent knee surgery to repair a posterior cruciate ligament tear in his knee.

"I’m hoping Ja's there with us," Love added. "That’s my guy right there."

Jaire Alexander stats

Alexander is a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time second-team All-Pro in 2020 and 2022.

He has 240 tackles, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 12 interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown this past season, and 70 passes defended in his seven-year NFL career.

Jaire Alexander contract

Alexander, who was selected by the Packers in the first round in 2018, has two years remaining from his four-year, $84 million contract extension that he signed in 2022.

Alexander is set to make a base salary of $16.15 million, with a dead cap value of $17 million in 2025, according to Spotrac.

The Packers have received interest in a trade and are waiting to make a deal, the Journal Sentinel's Tom Silverstein reported this week. The Packers want to avoid cutting him and not get anything in return, Silverstein reported.
