The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2026 season with one of the NFL‘s most dangerous passing attacks, and former head coach Jon Gruden believes the franchise should do everything possible to keep its star wide receiver tandem together.
In a recent video, the former NFL coach and current Barstool Sports personality praised the combination of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, arguing that players capable of creating as many problems for opposing defenses are too valuable to let go.

Gruden’s comments reflect what many around the league already believe. With Lamb and Pickens lining up alongside quarterback Dak Prescott, the Cowboys possess one of the most explosive offenses in football.
“Heck, if I’m with the Cowboys, I’m saying as long as they’re great, I’m keeping them both. It’s hard to find guys that can do this much damage to a defense.” Gruden said.
Lamb has established himself as one of the NFL’s elite receivers, while Pickens gives Dallas another dynamic playmaker capable of stretching the field and winning contested catches. Together, they create matchup nightmares that few defenses can consistently contain.
If both receivers remain healthy, Dallas has the firepower to compete with any offense in the league.
The Cowboys’ biggest issue a season ago wasn’t their offense—it was their defense. Despite boasting one of the league’s most talented offensive units, Dallas struggled on the other side of the ball, finishing with the NFL’s worst defense.
That made improving the defense the organization’s top priority this offseason, and on paper, the Cowboys appear to have addressed many of those concerns.
Dallas also retained Pickens by placing the franchise tag on him, ensuring he’ll return alongside Lamb and Prescott for another run at a Super Bowl.
However, Gruden’s advice could become much more difficult to follow after this season. While he believes the Cowboys should keep both star receivers together for the long haul, there’s no guarantee that will be financially possible. If Pickens reaches free agency after the 2026 campaign, Dallas could face a difficult decision depending on its salary cap situation.
For now, though, the Cowboys have one of the league’s premier offensive trios. With an improved defense and elite talent on offense, the opportunity to contend for a championship is right in front of them. Whether the Lamb-Pickens partnership extends beyond this season remains to be seen, making 2026 a pivotal year for Dallas.
