John Blackwell has a massive decision on his hands on whether to enter the 2026 NBA Draft or return to college and play for Duke after transferring from Wisconsin this offseason.
If he decides on the latter, it’s because he wants to achieve the ultimate goal in college basketball: a national championship.
"That's the reason I picked Duke," Blackwell told Andy Katz at the combine. "Because of the roster and because of who's coming back. Just the guys that are around. I think we have a special chance to go get a national championship. That's what you play for. That's what you come back to college for, to go compete for a national championship."
Blackwell would be a key piece for the Blue Devils’ chances of winning their first national title since 2015, most likely being a starter for Jon Scheyer’s squad after a season in which he averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Badgers.
With him on board, Duke would have a loaded backcourt that also includes returners Cayden Boozer and Caleb Foster alongside incoming freshman Deron Rippey Jr. and Bryson Howard.
If he decides to play for Duke, Blackwell immediately boosts the Blue Devils to one of the favorites to win the national championship next season. That’s why you come to Duke, isn’t it?
