With the Los Angeles Lakers on the brink of elimination from the 2025 NBA playoffs, coach JJ Redick took such offense to a question about his coaching that he stormed out of his pregame presser on Wednesday.
Game 5 in Los Angeles against the 3-1 Minnesota Timberwolves carried plenty of pressure for Redick, as it would be for any coach in such an elimination game. Nerves and concise responses in a pregame presser aren't out of the ordinary.
However, a reporter's question about whether or not he would lean on his assistants for substitution advice after losing Game 4 (where he stuck with his starters for the entire second half) made Redick very testy.
"You think I don't talk to my assistants about substitutions every single timeout?" Redick bluntly asked the reporter in question shortly before leaving the press conference.
This question clearly struck a nerve with Redick, who would go on to coach the biggest game of the Lakers season.
