Jiri Prochazka is back at his exotic training tactics.
An embodiment of the samurai bushido code, Prochazka is known for his unorthodox training methods. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion has been seen training blindfolded, swimming under a frozen lake, and doing 40-second sprints without breathing, among other things.
In his latest unconventional training method, Prochazka walked into a bush of stinging nettles -- a plant covered with sharp bristles or hairs that inject compounds into the skin and cause a burning sensation -- as part of a ceremonial strengthening method. “BJP” claims one has to undergo a night of tingling in the body to feel cleansed and reborn the next morning.
“A ceremonial strengthening with nettles to mark the end of spring and the beginning of summer,” Prochazka wrote on Instagram. “All night, body tingling, but the next day, one feels cleansed and reborn.”
Prochazka (32-6) is coming off a failed bid for the vacant light heavyweight title against Carlos Ulberg at UFC 327 this past April. While Prochazka seemed to be moments away from securing a finish with leg kicks, Ulberg came from behind to finish the Czech in the first round.
Prochazka has only lost to Ulberg and Alex Pereira in the UFC, while finishing all six of his wins.
