New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn could be entering a fate-deciding season in 2026. Though Glenn has the support of owner Woody Johnson, the fanbase wants to see improvement after his debut coaching season ended with a 3-14 record. Staffing changes are ongoing as a result.

Coach Glenn has dismissed a number of coaching assistants in recent days. He's in the process of hiring a new defensive coordinator with Don "Wink" Martindale emerging as a favorite. Another big expected change is the potential hiring of veteran coach Frank Reich as the veteran play-caller, leaving actual offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand in an unclear role moving forward.

Glenn may be tying his job security to the stunning arrival of Reich.

Things are progressing between the #Jets & Frank Reich, per sources. We’ll see if New York can get it done. They’re trying.

Would be a big get for Aaron Glenn’s offensive staff. Reich won a Super Bowl as OC of the Eagles (2016-2017), although Doug Pederson called plays. Served… pic.twitter.com/jRac1h9VBX

Reich spent the 2025 season as Stanford's interim head coach. He won Super Bowl LII as the non-play-calling offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles. Reich enjoyed a mildly successful stint as the Indianapolis Colts' head coach (2018-22), but his follow-up stint in Carolina was disastrous.

Reich was fired after a 1-10 start with the Panthers. His offense was 29th in sacks allowed while rookie quarterback Bryce Young struggled with one of the worst passer ratings in the league. Reich's offense proved to be ineffective at developing Young early.

Reich was the first head coach to be fired midseason in back-to-back years, after the Colts dismissed him midway through 2022. His 11-game stint with the Panthers was the fourth shortest for a head coach in NFL history.

Tying his fate to Reich feels like a bold move for Glenn.
