Jets' Stuart Skinner signing sends massive Connor Hellebuyck trade message originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Winnipeg Jets, at a minimum, are adding some insurance.
They may be doing much more than that with their signing of goalie Stuart Skinner.
The two-year contract, agreed to on Wednesday, is a big signal about Connor Hellebuyck.

This is Skinner's third team in a year.
He began 2025-26 with the Edmonton Oilers, was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and now joins the Jets.
Winnipeg hasn't had what appears to be a public Hellebuyck trade request, but it's been clear that he's been on the block.
Skinner is a borderline starter at the NHL level. It seems unlikely he'd sign this quickly if he didn't think there was at least a chance he'd start in Winnipeg.
Nothing is a given, and it will still take a big-time offer to get the three-time Vezina Trophy winner from the Jets.
But this is a step toward a trade, a big one.
