The Baltimore Ravens knew they were taking on risk when they lost Tyler Linderbaum in free agency. What they may not have fully resolved yet is how to replace him. Linderbaum’s departure to the Las Vegas Raiders left a significant void, not just in talent but also in leadership. He was the anchor of Baltimore’s offensive line, a unit that already had its share of inconsistencies along the interior. Removing its most reliable piece only magnified those concerns.

The Ravens responded by adding bodies. John Simpson joined the mix at guard. Next, his addition was followed by the acquisition of Jovaughn Gwyn. Later, Danny Pinter was added to help stabilize the interior. On paper, that creates competition. In reality, it doesn’t necessarily create clarity, and based on recent comments, head coach Jesse Minter seems to understand that.

When asked at the NFL’s annual league meeting whether the Ravens’ starting center is already on the roster, Minter didn’t offer a vote of confidence. Instead, he leaned into uncertainty.

“Depth charts right now, it’s pretty irrelevant… We’re gonna let that sort itself out through competition all the way into training camp… The real competition will be in training camp and I’m sure by then we’ll have even more pieces added into that competition.”

That’s not a “yes.” If anything, it’s the opposite. Minter’s response suggests Baltimore is far from settled at one of the most important positions on the field. Competition is expected. So are more additions, potentially via the draft. More changes feel inevitable. That aligns with the broader reality of the Ravens’ offseason. They’ve added depth, but not definitive answers. Replacing a player like Linderbaum was never going to be simple. It may not even be immediate.

For now, the center position remains open, and until someone claims it, the Ravens’ offensive line will carry more questions than certainty.
