The Boston Celtics left Madison Square Garden on Monday night with more than just a Game 4 loss. They left with uncertainty surrounding the future of their superstar—and their season.
Jayson Tatum, who had exploded for 42 points and kept Boston within reach throughout the night, went down late in the fourth quarter with a non-contact leg injury that silenced the arena. He couldn’t put weight on his right leg and was later wheeled out of the building—clearly in visible pain.
The Knicks took full advantage of the chaos, closing out a 121-113 win behind Jalen Brunson’s 39-point, 12-assist performance. But the score was secondary to the shock and concern surrounding Tatum’s injury, which now threatens to derail the defending champs’ title hopes.

After the game, Jaylen Brown didn’t sugarcoat the team’s issues—but he also didn’t back down from the moment.
“Our defense let us down,” he said. “Just no resistance.”
Still, amid the emotional weight of losing his co-star, Brown made one thing clear.
“We’ve got enough in this locker room. … I believe in my guys,” he said, delivering a pointed message that the Celtics aren’t ready to fold—regardless of Tatum’s status.
Boston will host Game 5 on Wednesday night. With their backs against the wall, Brown’s words now double as a challenge—and a rallying cry.
