The Jacksonville Jaguars have a decision to make this offseason about right tackle Anton Harrison.
As a former first-round pick entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2026, the Jaguars have to decide later this offseason whether to exercise or decline Harrison's fifth-year option for the 2027 season.
If exercised, that fifth-year essentially operates like a one-year deal. The contract value amount for that season is based on the player's position, their playing time through three seasons, and if they've earned any Pro Bowl nods.
If the option is declined, Harrison will play out the final year of his rookie deal and be a free agent in 2027.
So what will the Jaguars do? Thomas Valentine of Pro Football Focus recently predicted the fifth-year option decisions for each NFL team. Thomas believes that the Jaguars will pick up Harrison's option.
"Despite being known as a pass-protector first and foremost, Harrison’s run-blocking grades have also gotten better each season, culminating in a career-best 65.6 PFF run-blocking grade in 2025," wrote Valentine. "Harrison has been a set-and-forget starter for the Jaguars."
This decision seems to be pretty straightforward for the Jaguars. Harrison plays one of the more important positions in the game, and he's coming off his best season.
According to Over the Cap, Harrison's fifth-year option for the 2027 season is expected to be worth $19.956 million, all of which would be guarnateed.
Not always, but in many instances when these options are picked up, a contract extension follows to help lower the 2027 salary cap hit.
