It's NFL draft month. So between now and when the first round begins, we will be highlighting prospects who could be of interest to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Next up is Texas interior defensive lineman Alfred Collins.
Height: 6-055
Weight: 332
Arm length: 34.63 inches
Relative Athletic Score (RAS): N/A
Collins has played 1,855 career defensive snaps over five seasons at Texas, with 593 of those snaps coming in 2024. According to PFF, Collins has mostly lined up in the B-gap, but he does have some playing time lined up over the offensive tackle as well.
Pass rush-wise, Collins' 18 pressures in 2024 or 23 pressures in 2023, along with his six career sacks, aren't going to leap off the stat sheet by any means. But where his greatest impact came was as a run defender. This past season, Collins was one of PFF's highest graded run defenders.
Although we are in the 'stats to know' section, it's important to note that Collins' presence isn't always going to show up as production. However, when a defense has a strong interior presence eating up space, taking on blockers, and generating push, every other player within the front seven is going to benefit.
As we all know, the defensive line is going to be a big priority for the Jaguars in the NFL draft. It's a need that, earlier this offseason, GM James Gladstone said he wanted to prioritize, and after not adding to this group in free agency, the need to do so in the draft has increased.
This was a Jaguars' defensive front last season that ranked 32nd in ESPN's pass rush win rate metric and 27th in run stop rate.
Even if the Jaguars take Mason Graham in the first round, as many are predicting, this is a position that Jacksonville could not only double-dip at, but could triple-dip with 10 selections.
Collins would provide the Jaguars with a Day 2 option at the position.
For more on Collins, here is what NFL.com's Lance Zierlein wrote in his scouting report:
"Collins isn’t going to stand out in one particular area, but he plays hard and has outstanding physical traits to blend right into an NFL defensive rotation. He’s quick laterally to spoil landmarks for zone blockers and has the stride length to disrupt upfield if asked. He added mass in 2024 and was harder to move when his pad level was right, but he can be tardy to shed and tackle a gap over. He has the traits to become a more consistent NFL rusher but the production is still untapped. He’s not a premier playmaker but he has the size, talent and alignment versatility to help fortify a defensive front as an early contributor and future starter."

Alfred Collins is a DT prospect in the 2025 draft class. He does not qualify for a #RAS due to a lack of measurements.https://t.co/lckR6Pw4qQpic.twitter.com/XLtrwKzila
