The Norway national football team has been one of the biggest stories at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even going beyond its star striker, Erling Haaland. Following a stunning upset over Brazil to secure its place in the quarterfinals, Norway is set to face an England side that gutted out a 3-2 victory over Mexico in one of the best matches of the tournament. However, ahead of the matchup, news began to surface that the Norwegian side could be battling a sickness affecting the team, so we looked into the latest developments.
While there has been confirmation that a bug has affected some players on the Norway team, goalie Orjan Nyland recently joined James Corden and admitted it is true, but didn't offer many details beyond that.
Nyland's conversation aired on World Cup After Hours with James Corden, which follows the day's World Cup action. When Corden asked him, jokingly saying "please tell me this is true" (as an England fan), Nyland replied that the team doctors have been busy.
"I can confirm that is true," Nyland said. "We've had our issues ... we're doing the best that we can and the team doctor is very busy at the moment, so that's my answer to your question."
Corden asked if he had any idea how this happened, and joked that he's so "so happy the team loved the Edible Arrangement" he sent them.
"I don't have any clue, I think we have had some time off, so maybe someone contracted anything during the time off, hopefully everything goes well and we face England with a fully rested squad on Saturday," Nyland said.
Although Nyland wouldn't go into specifics, there have been various reports about the potential illness the Norwegian team is battling.
The positive news is that Norway entered its matchup with Brazil at nearly full strength, aside from Torino defender Marcus Pedersen, who was absent due to illness. Norway manager Stale Solbakken also explained that striker Jorgen Strand Larsen was suffering from a fever, as Sport Bible highlighted, but that he has fully recovered.
However, Solbakken also cited that there are some minor health concerns "scattered throughout," including a"a bit of coughing and rasping." Fortunately, he didn't sound too concerned and even chalked it up to something that comes with World Cup travel.
"There's air conditioning, flights, changing rooms and all that," Solbakken stated. "We're over 50 people, so it would be strange if one or the other didn't come."
