Is Mack Hollins playing in AFC Championship vs. Broncos? Final status for Patriots WR originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The injury report provided good news and bad news for the New England Patriots ahead of their showdown with the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship.
The bad news is that stating edge rusher Harold Landry has been officially ruled out of the game due to a knee injury. This is a big blow for New England’s defense, as Landry led the team in sacks during the regular season with 8.5.
Mack Hollins activated off IR, cleared to play in AFC Championship
The good news, though, is that starting wide receiver Mack Hollins has been activated from injured reserve and will be available for the Patriots against Denver. Hollis has been on the IR since late December with an abdominal injury, so he has yet to play in the postseason.
During the regular season, Hollins caught 46 passes for 550 yards and two touchdowns. His return will provide quarterback Drake Maye with another weapon at his disposal and could be a boost for the team as a whole.
"He has an energy to him," Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said of Hollins upon his return to the active lineup. "I've always appreciated his willingness to learn what we're doing but also be a leader for some of the younger guys."
Hollins made it all the way to the Super Bowl as a rookie with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. He's now just one win away from getting back there, and with a big game against Denver he could potentially be a big factor in making that happen.
