The Green Bay Packers selected Oklahoma State edge rusher and linebacker Collin Oliver in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft.
Oliver (6-1, 240) was a three-time All-Big 12 pick who produced big-time numbers over his first three seasons before suffering a foot injury in 2024 and missing 10 games. It's possible he wouldn't have been available at this point in the draft without the missed games last season. In Green Bay, Oliver has a chance to be a versatile weapon and a subpackage rusher for Jeff Hafley.
Instant reactions to the Packers taking Oliver at No. 159 overall:
If Savion Williams is a fun toy for Matt LaFleur, Collin Oliver is a fun toy for Jeff Hafley. A tweener between edge rusher and off-ball linebacker, Oliver was insanely productive as a disruptive force for Oklahoma State, tallying 42 tackles for loss and 23.5 sacks over four seasons. The Packers say he'll get a chance to be a designated pass-rusher as an edge rusher despite being 6-1 and 240 pounds and lacking ideal length and size. An elite athlete with incredible movement ability, Oliver could be the explosive, bendy, subpackage pass-rusher that the Packers haven't had in the 4-3 front. He could also play snaps off-the-ball next to Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper and give Rich Bisaccia another real weapon on special teams. In the fifth round, Oliver is exactly the type of player you want to bet on. He's coming off a major foot injury, but he tested like an elite athlete and has a few special traits, plus a clear path to playing time for the third phase. Good pick.
Oliver was an extremely productive pass rusher at Oklahoma State, logging 23.5 sacks in four seasons. That number would have been higher if not for a foot injury that limited him to two games in 2024. That said, he's too light (240 pounds) and lacks adequate arm length to be a full-time edge rusher. Green Bay may try him out at off-ball linebacker and he will likely chance contribute on special teams as well.
Collin Oliver is an explosive mover and a former track athlete. He only played in two games this past season due to injury. In those two games he recorded two tackles for loss, one sack and 14 pressures. He has disruptive traits; in 43 games, he recorded 40.5 tackles for loss. He’s got a motor that doesn’t turn off and consistently found ways to create chaos. It will be interesting to see how Jeff Hafley utilizes him.
