The Indiana Pacers have received their first free agency news as forward Kelly Oubre Jr. will meet with the team.

Oubre is also planning to meet with the Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Oubre is coming off a productive season in the 2025-26 season, as he averaged 14.1 points, five rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 36 percent from three.

He would be a great fit for the Pacers, who need to replace a scoring forward after dealing Bennedict Mathurin to the Los Angeles Clippers in the Ivica Zubac trade.

They have some quality players on the roster, but adding another scoring option like Oubre could elevate the team's ceiling.

Indiana has a chance to be contenders in the 2026-27 season as star guard Tyrese Haliburton will be returning from his torn Achilles tendon. Haliburton led the Pacers to the NBA Finals in the 2024-25 season and pushed the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games before going down with his injury.

That made the 2025-26 season a gap year for Indiana, but they are on track to be competitive in the Eastern Conference again next season.

Haliburton played at an elite level when he was last healthy, as he averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and 38.8 percent from behind the arc.

He is an elite playmaker who elevates his teammates, giving the Pacers the opportunity to contend. A player like Oubre would help Indiana improve, as their fast-paced offense, which thrives in transition, would fit his skill set as an athletic forward.

Oubre is also a solid defender as he is disruptive in passing lanes with deflections and steals. The 30-year-old has the flexibility to start at small forward or come off the bench behind Aaron Nesmith.

Indiana has a talented roster already, but if they can add some pieces around the edges like Oubre in free agency, they could be one of the favorites to win the East in the 2026-27 season.
