Michigan State hockey had their first two selections in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft when Chase Reid went No. 7 to the Seattle Kraken, and Nikita Klepov went No. 15 to the Anaheim Ducks. Now, the Spartans have seen their third draft pick of the first round be announced. Ethan Belchetz has been selected No. 17 overall by the Utah Mammoth.

The Mammoth traded up for the No. 17 pick, using the No. 19 pick and a third round selection to move up in order to draft the future Spartan.

A 6-foot-5, 230 pound forward, Belchetz is going to be a massive player for the Spartans in 2026-27, needing to fill a top six forward role in East Lansing. He is a native of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and was standout player with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.

In 113 career games in Windsor, Belchetz scored 51 goals and added 46 assists. A major pro prospect with his size and ability, he will look to make strong strides developing in East Lansing before joining the Mammoth.
