The return of Ilia Topuria has been quietly gaining momentum, and now the anticipation is reaching a boiling point. For weeks, rumblings of a potential fight date have swirled across social media and fight forums. While no official matchup has been announced, one thing is certain—whatever event Topuria headlines next is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated cards of the year.

Speaking in a video shared by Chisanga Malata via Telemadrid, Topuria officially confirmed that he would return to competition on June 28. In his words: ‘On June 28, something big is coming—something that will mark a before and after in the history of Spanish sport.’ The timing lines up perfectly with UFC 317, which is expected to anchor the promotion’s annual International Fight Week. That’s led many fans to speculate that Topuria will play a central role in the UFC’s summer showcase.

The fan reaction has been immediate and widespread. One post on X captured the general mood: ‘Okay, we’ve got half an announcement. I am buying the theory that they are waiting on the result of Belal Muhammad–Jack Della Maddalena. If Belal wins, Islam will fight Ilia at 317. If he loses, Islam will vacate and Ilia will fight Charles or Arman for the vacant belt.’

Adding fuel to the fire, Islam Makhachev is reportedly in training camp. Charles Oliveira has also resumed preparations, suggesting both are viable options. As for Justin Gaethje, while not officially booked, he has been rumored as a possible wild card in the mix. Arman Tsarukyan has also been floated as a potential opponent, especially given his rising stock and recent performances. With so many variables still in motion, it’s clear Dana White and the UFC matchmakers may have something big up their sleeve.
