WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 15: Ilia Topuria is supported by trainers as he leaves the octagon after loosing to Justin Gaethje in a lightweight title bout during UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House on June 15, 2026 in Washington, DC. Justin Gaethje is the shining star of UFC White House after breaking Ilia Topuria in the main event to finally become undisputed lightweight champion.
Words could barely describe Gaethje’s epic battle with Topuria that capped off Sunday’s historic show, but “The Highlight” had social media absolutely buzzing after scoring a massive upset win over the previously undefeated Topuria. Gaethje entered UFC White House as the interim champion, with a pair of failed attempts to claim the undisputed title on his résumé, but this time he would not be denied as he battered Topuria with his trademark striking, survived a couple of scary moments where it looked like Topuria would come out on top, and outlasted “El Matador” until the Spaniard’s corner stopped the bout at the end of the fourth round.
Topuria put on a valiant performance, but he wore the accumulating damage on his face as the bout progressed, to the point that it was almost stopped at the end of Round 3 when it sounded like Topuria’s corner told the ringside physician that Topuria couldn’t see. Somehow, the bout was allowed to continue, so Gaethje needed another five minutes to put an exclamation point on a performance for the ages.
See how pros reacted on social media to the thrilling UFC White House main event below.
