Vaibhav Sooryavanshi faces possible ICC sanctions after altercation with Sri Lanka A player
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got involved in an ugly confrontation with a Sri Lanka A player following India A's disappointing Super Over defeat, and now the 15-year-old is potentially facing disciplinary action from match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash under the ICC Code of Conduct.
India A had managed only nine runs while chasing 17 in the Super Over and suffered their second consecutive defeat in the series. Sooryavanshi faced the final three deliveries from slinger Kugathas Mathulan, scoring six runs including a boundary, but could not take his side over the line.

As Sri Lanka A's players erupted in celebration, television cameras caught an agitated Sooryavanshi walking back alongside Suryansh Shedge. Moments later, the teenager suddenly moved towards Mathulan, apparently reacting to something the bowler said during the celebrations.
Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage stepped in to separate the two, but Sooryavanshi appeared to make physical contact with him. Halambage also moved toward the Indian batter before experienced wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella stepped between them and prevented the situation from deteriorating further.

What does the ICC Code of Conduct say?
The incident is likely to be assessed under Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers inappropriate physical contact with players, support staff, umpires or match officials during an international match.
A player can be found in breach if they deliberately, recklessly or carelessly make physical contact by walking, running into or shouldering another person.
The match referee will examine several factors in determining how serious the offence was, including whether the contact was intentional or avoidable, the degree of force involved, any injury caused to the other party, and the identity and role of the person involved.

What punishment could follow Sooryavanshi?
Article 2.12 is generally treated as a Level 1 offence under the ICC's disciplinary framework, though the specific circumstances of the incident will determine where on the scale it lands.
Potential sanctions include a fine of up to 50 per cent of the player's match fee, between one and two demerit points added to their disciplinary record, or an official reprimand in cases deemed less serious.

It is worth noting that a player who accumulates four demerit points within any 24 months becomes liable for a match suspension.
It now remains to be seen whether Jeyapragash chooses to issue a formal charge or allows the matter to be resolved with a private warning remains to be seen.
