In addition to the official race tracking, there are several ways to pinpoint where a runner or walker is on the route.
The race offers participant tracking through the PigWorks app for the marathon, half-marathon, relays, 10K and 5K races.
The app estimates the participant's finish time based on the estimate given at registration. It will update that time and send notifications at certain points on the course:
Participants can also be tracked live, within a few meters, through the app if they have the GPS feature enabled on their phones. But some participants told The Enquirer that has lagged behind a little in past years.
If your runner plans to carry their phone, several apps will update their location frequently for people to whom they have sent a link.
Popular GPS fitness watch companies such as Garmin and Coros have features in their respective phone apps. Athletic activity app Strava has a "beacon" feature that does the same thing.
You can also use location sharing in map apps on Apple and Android phones.
