The Seattle Seawolves (6-4, 31 points) host the California Legion (5-5, 29 points) for the second straight week at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Washington, with Sunday night’s match deciding a spot in next week’s Major League Rugby championship final.
Seattle leapfrogged the Legion for second place and homefield advantage for the semifinals with its 33-19 victory on June 7 at Starfire Stadium. Dan Kriel scored two tries for the Seawolves while Paddy Ryan, Duncan Matthews, and Mason Pederson also touched the try line. Davy Coetzer converted all four tries as Seattle came back from an early 5-0 deficit.
Gonzalo Bertranou gave California an early lead with a try in the fifth minute, and Ed Timpson got the Legion back to within 21-12 before halftime. Justus Tavai touched down a try in the 78th minute, and Coby Miln converted twice.
Ryan’s seven tries for the Seawolves ranked third in MLR this season, and he also tied for third in the league with 131 tackles. Miln placed second in MLR with 95 kicks and 80 points.
