BURLINGTON — One down, one more to go for North Lincoln baseball in its quest for back-to-back NCHSAA state titles.
The Knights sent quite the message Wednesday, May 27, posting one of its most dominant performances of the season in an 11-1 victory over Seaforth in Game 1 of the NCHSAA 5A state championship series.

“These guys wanted to get back here and prove to themselves that they could do it (again),” said North Lincoln baseball coach Charlie Goss. “And now that they are here playing against the best team from the other side of the state, what’s there to stress about? Let’s just have fun and play baseball.”
North Lincoln had plenty to exult over, pounding out 15 hits.
Cole Nemire was 2-for-2 with two doubles, his RBI base hit in the second getting the Knights off and running. Greyson Evans (double, two RBIs, two runs), Cason McGinnis (double, run), Elliott Dellinger (double, three RBIs, run), Bryson Summey (double, run), Beckett Rinkus (double, two RBIs, two runs) and Caleb Hancock (two runs) also contributed two hits apiece.
Game 1 starter Bryson Schmidt was in command from the outset, allowing one run on four hits with a strikeout. Two of those hits came in the sixth, a Jack Simpson bunt followed by a Jaedyn Rader RBI double.
“These seniors for four years, and everybody else, as long as they've been here, we told them in August, coming back off the year we had last year that we had to be the best on the field in every facet of the game,” Goss said. “And tonight all those things came together.”
Though in control of the series, Goss has no plan to take his foot off the brake just yet.
“The job isn’t finished,” he said. “When we start (Thursday, May 28) it’s all gas, no brakes and barbecue chicken.”
