As Kentucky football coach Will Stein continues to fill out his inaugural staff, details emerged regarding the terms of their employment.

The Courier Journal obtained offer letters via open records request for offensive coordinator Joe Sloan (previously at LSU), defensive coordinator Jay Bateman (Texas A&M) and general manager Pat Biondo (Oregon). The university's records office did not provide copies of their contracts upon request, saying they were not yet finalized.

Here are the details gleaned from Sloan's, Bateman's and Biondo's offer letters:

Kentucky football offensive coordinator Joe Sloan salary, bonuses

Sloan's employment term spans three seasons (2026-2028), according to a copy of his offer letter. His compensation per season is as follows:

  • Season 1 (date of hire in 2025-Jan. 31, 2027): $1.3 million paid monthly, with a base salary of $400,000 "plus supplemental compensation" of $900,000)
  • Season 2 (Feb. 1, 2027-Jan. 31, 2028): $1.3 million ("supplemental compensation" rising to $950,000)
  • Season 3 (Feb. 1, 2028-Jan. 31, 2029): $1.4 million ("supplemental compensation" rising to $1 million)

If Sloan were to terminate his agreement before Dec. 1, 2026, he would owe UK $1 million. After that, Sloan would owe UK $300,000 for each remaining year on his deal.

Sloan is eligible for the following bonuses as well:

  • Participation in a non-College Football Playoff bowl game: $15,000 OR
  • Participation in a CFP Preliminary round game: $25,000 OR
  • Participation in a CFP Quarterfinal game: $40,000 OR
  • Participation in a CFP Semifinal game: $50,000 OR
  • Participation in the CFP National Championship game: $75,000
  • Win the CFP National Championship: $100,000
  • Participate in the SEC Championship game: $15,000 OR
  • Win the SEC Championship game: $25,000

Sloan's benefits include a "standard" university benefits package, matching retirement contribution based on salary, a courtesy car or stipend and complimentary tickets to UK Athletics events (two men's basketball season tickets, and four for football).

Kentucky football defensive coordinator Jay Bateman salary, bonuses

Bateman's offer letter is identical to Sloan's, except Bateman's also includes a provision stating UK will pay or reimburse Bateman for any buyout to his then-current employer (Texas A&M) before Jan. 31 up to $330,000.

Kentucky football general manager Pat Biondo salary, bonuses

Biondo's term sheet, dated Dec. 4, included two pieces of information: employment term and salary.

It states that as of Dec. 3, Biondo became employed with UK at an annualized rate of $500,000. It also states that Kentucky was, at the time, working on a contract outlining the terms his employment, which began on Dec. 3 and will expire on June 30, 2027.
