The Western Conference Finals have not gone as the Colorado Avalanche had hoped.
Entering Tuesday night's Game 4, the NHL's leading regular-season team sits in the dreaded 0-3 hole for the playoff series. Only four teams in the entire history of the NHL have ever come back from down 0-3. It's the main reason you can't say "never say never" for the Avalanche, but, on paper, it's incredibly unlikely they come back and advance to their second Stanley Cup Final in the last four seasons.
Still, if the Avalanche are to pull the comeback off, they'll likely need Hart Trophy winner Nathan MacKinnon to fire on all cylinders. Unfortunately, they're probably not going to get that version of the superstar after he got hurt on a blocked shot in Game 3. And as it stands, because this is hockey, MacKinnon has an undisclosed lower-body injury that he was clearly laboring on at the end of Game 3. If this were any other scenario, it'd be hard to imagine MacKinnon playing.
But with the Avalanche's season on the line in Game 4, MacKinnon will unsurprisingly suit up and give it his best shot:
We'll see how MacKinnon and the Avalanche fare in Game 4 in Las Vegas. They have no margin for error left.
