With Silent Tactic officially out of the 152nd Kentucky Derby and Great White officially in, one of the favorites has moved into perhaps the Run for the Roses' unluckiest gate.
Silent Tactic got post 13 during the draw on Saturday, April 25. With Silent Tactic out, Great White slides into post 20, and every horse from post 14 onward moves up a spot. The numbers for each horse remain the same — bettors use those numbers to wager on the race — but their actual positions change.
Potente went from post 14 to 13, Emerging Market from 15 to 14, Pavlovian from 16 to 15, and so on. Of particular note is Brad Cox-trained Further Ado, who had morning-line odds of 7-1 before the change, moved from post 18 to 17. Post 17 is the only one to never produce a Kentucky Derby winner since the event started using a starting gate in 1930.
