A third-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2026 NFL draft, rookie safety AJ Haulcy could begin to make an impact on the Colts’ defense as soon as Week 1.
Haulcy finds himself in the mix for the starting safety role next to Cam Bynum and could be the early favorite for that job.
Colts’ defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo recently spoke about Haulcy’s efforts throughout the offseason. As Anarumo says, the safety has exceeded expectations to begin his career in Indianapolis.
"He's come in and exceeded my expectations, just from a mental standpoint," Anarumo said. “He's not a repeat offender when it comes to a mistake that he may get. He gets football."
Haulcy recorded 88 total tackles and three interceptions throughout his one and only season at LSU last year. He brings impressive ball skills and versatility to the Colts' secondary.
The talented safety could quickly begin to shine during training camp in July, and Haulcy appears to be on the right track following Anarumo’s comments.
